League: Northwestern League
History: The Turks toiled in the Class B Northwestern League in 1909 (Seattle would not join the PCL until 1919, with the Purple Sox). The Turks won the pennant behind the strong offensive performance of second baseman Justin “Pug” Bennett, who played in all 167 games and batted .314 while collecting 111 hits. The Turks’ title in 1909 was Seattle’s first professional sports championship.
