League: Puerto Rico League
History: The Puerto Rico League began as a semi-professional winter circuit in 1938. In addition to providing opportunities for native-born players, the league was a haven for American Negro league players, who could extend their earnings by playing all-year round. They also did not face the racial prejudice that existed in the US. Josh Gibson and Satchel Paige were among the many African-American stars who played on the island. This is a cap from a league-wide all-star team.
