League: New England League
History: Pawtucket ran away with the pennant in ’49, besting second-place Nashua by 10 ½ games. Outfielder Bob Montag hit an astounding .423 and led the league in four offensive categories. Montag later hit 113 home runs for the Atlanta Crackers. Pitcher Don Liddle went 11-2, best in the league. Liddle would later be remembered as the New York Giant who threw the pitch to Vic Wertz in the 1954 World Series that led to “The Catch” by Willie Mays.
