History: Ralph “Road Runner” Garr made a big impact his sophomore year helping the Tigers win the Southwestern Conference Championship in 1964. In his career, Garr led Grambling to a 103-11 record, highlighted by a 33-1 record and a third place finish at the 1967 NAIA baseball championship. Garr would set an NAIA batting record hitting .582 as a Senior before a successful 12 year Major League career mostly with the Atlanta Braves. Grambling State is a historically black university (HBCU) located in Grambling, Louisiana. The Tigers currently play in the Western Division of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).
