League: National Baseball Hall of Fame
History: George Brett debuted at third base for Kansas City on August 2, 1973. In his ensuing 21-year career he would amass a lifetime .305 batting average, win the AL batting title three times, and appear in 13 All Star Games. Perhaps Brett’s most famous home run was hit against the Yankees on July 24, 1983, in the famous “Pine Tar Incident”, in which umpires nullified a Brett home run because the pine tar on his bat exceeded the allowed 18 inches. An enraged Brett ran out of the dugout after the ruling and had to be restrained by teammates. The ruling was later nullified and Brett’s home run restored. Brett was elected to the Hall in 1999, with 98.4% of votes, one of the highest percentages in history.
