History: The 1919 Reds accomplishments as National League pennant-winners and World Series champions were overshadowed by the Black Sox scandal, in which several Chicago White Sox players were found to have conspired with gamblers to throw the 1919 World Series. The Reds’ squad included Cuban pitcher Dolf Luque, MLB’s first Latino pitcher, and first to win a World Series game.
