History: Caruthersville, a town in the “boot heel” of Missouri, was part of the vast farm system of the St. Louis Cardinals, which encompassed 33 clubs in 1937. By contrast, the Chicago White Sox only had one minor league affiliate. The Pilots featured future Cardinals third baseman Whitey Kurowski, who was a five-time major league all-star despite missing part of his right forearm due to a childhood illness.
