History: One of the most recognizable mascots in all of collegiate athletics is the Notre Dame Leprechaun. He was designed by sports artist Theodore Drake in 1964 for the sum of just $50. The live Leprechaun made his first appearance on the sidelines in 1960 along side the Notre Dame Cheerleaders and is now world famous. Prior the the Leprechaun, the ND mascots were represented by Irish Terriers that usually went by the name of Clashmore Mike. The Leprechaun was named the official mascot in 1965. The Fighting Irish football team of today play their home games at historic Notre Dame Stadium where they have been doing so since 1930. Play like a Champion Today!
