History: Japanese immigrants in the United States (“nikkei”) formed social and athletic clubs and competed in several team sports, including baseball. In the 1920s, the Nippon Athletic Club and Taiyo Athletic Club were fierce rivals, competing with Caucasian American teams as well as with each other.
